Don McLean’s American Pie is the History of American music from the mid 1950’s through the late 1960’s. But more than that it details the time when America the nation lost its way. McLean himself has never talked about it other than to say the symbolism caught the attention of the public which is why he used those symbols. Bob Dearborn, a DJ on WCFL-AM in Chicago, wrote what has become the definitive analysis of the song and this video is based primarily on that analysis.

American Pie has always been one of my favorites and is presented here because of that and its relationship to the death of life as I knew it in my youth; it is as American as apple Pie.
